Once when Sri Adi Sankaracharya asked for alms, the lady of the house was deeply ashamed that she had nothing to oer except a single small amalaka as bhiksha. Seeing her extreme discomfort on her small oering, the great saint burst into a song, beseeching Devi Mahalakshmi to shower her grace on the poor lady. An enchanting composition, this divine entreaty, Kanakadhara Stotram, creates word pictures of Mother’s great beauty and her love for Shri Bhagavan.
